    Excellent research for the future

As a University of Excellence, TU Dresden is one of the strongest research universities in Germany. Its unique profile of sciences, engineering sciences and life sciences as well as strong humanities, cultural studies and social sciences is reflected in five Research Priority Areas with highly interdisciplinary cutting-edge research, including three Clusters of Excellence:

    •            Health Sciences, Biomedicine and Bioengineering
    •            Information Technology and Microelectronics
    •            Materials Science
    •            Energy, Mobility and Environment
    •            Culture and Societal Change

The interdisciplinary and inter-institutional approach is also reflected in TU Dresden's close cooperation with numerous non-university research institutions and research-based cultural institutions within DRESDEN-concept. This research alliance, which is unique in Germany, also benefits early-career researchers, who are promoted at TU Dresden through a Graduate Academy and a Postdoc Center.

„At our university, we face the tasks and global challenges of the 21st century with excellent interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research.”
    Prof. Dr. Angela Rösen-Wolff
    Vice-Rector Research at TU Dresden

TU Dresden – connected to the world

TUD is an integral part of a worldwide network of research and teaching. Our profile embraces cooperations with partner universities all over the world, as well as almost 6,000 students and employees from more than 120 nations. Cultural diversity and international experiences have always been part of Dresden's identity. As early as the beginning of the 19th century, about a quarter of the students of the then Royal Saxon Technical University of Dresden came from Russia, Austria-Hungary, Norway, Bulgaria and the USA. Today, most international students come from India and China. Internationality has many different aspects. It is reflected in degree programs, double degree and mobility programs, in research projects on ecosystem resilience and water security, as well as in courses to develop linguistic and intercultural competence in teaching and administration. Internationally linked, thinking global and regionally embedded - that is the Dresden Spirit.

„We want to educate people who think and act globally: Dresden world citizens!”
