    • Target group Our graduates are sought-after professionals in various fields in which social responsibility and support of people are the focus. In particular, they work as professional supervisors, guardians and also in the field of legal guardianship as supplementary, absentee or estate administrators or as guardians for unknown parties. The degree course is also aimed at all those who already work in the field of legal representation of people or who would like to work in this field. This includes social pedagogues, social workers, volunteer supervisors, educators and lawyers and offers them the opportunity to specialise.

    • Completed university study of six semesters, preferably in the fields of Law, Social Science and Economics at a higher education institution within the jurisdiction of the German Constitution (Grundgesetz) or a foreign university recognised as being equivalent
      e.g.: Bachelor degrees, Diploma degrees (University of Applied Sciences), completed University (of Applied Sciences) courses to qualify for higher civil service level (administration of justice, administration, foreign affairs, finances)
      In addition, it is also possible for prospective students without a certificate of academic degree to complete this Master's degree course. The following requirements must be met for this: Proof of completed vocational training and at least five years of relevant professional experience (note: an entrance examination must also be taken).

    At the HWR Berlin, our approach to academic education is strongly informed by the latest research and aligned with real world skills. Working on the foundation of modern teaching methods, constant quality assurance and quality development, we foster a significant practical application of skills in cooperation with our partners in the business, administrative and legal sectors, and in non-profit organisations and associations. The link between academic theory and applied skills is especially close in the cooperative study programmes, which represent a core element in our portfolio.     Diverse Research

    Conducting high-level research with a focus on its applicability, researchers at the HWR Berlin work in five departments, eight internal research Institutes and six An-Institutes conducting research into topics pertaining to Economics and the Social Sciences, the Administrative Sciences, Engineering and Law. A multi-disciplinary research concept promotes the development of shared research foci. The university also maintains an internal programme of research funding. The HWR Berlin is a member of the Institut für angewandte Forschung Berlin e. V. (IFAF).

    International Focus

    Our international focus is an integral component of our institutional philosophy and informs every aspect of our teaching and research programme. Currently maintaining over 180 active partnerships with institutions of higher education on every continent, we are continually seeking to expand and reinforce existing programmes of co-operation. The HWR Berlin is also a member in the “Alliance for Excellence” (UAS7) an association of seven German institutions of Higher Education dedicated to quality and internationality and working to extend joint research undertakings and develop shared research strategies.
